A Photo Guide on how to Handle Acorns

Harvest nuts directly from oak tree

Use garden hoe to pull branches so nuts can be reached

Remove caps from acorns

Float nuts in water, keep sinkers, toss floaters to wildlife

Dry acorns in terry towel

Use sealable plastic bag for storage

With waterproof pen write on bag collection date and address of tree

Store prepared bags of acorns in crisper section of refrigerator until planting time. Until then, open each bag 1 x week to exchange build up of methane gas and oxygen.
